Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that the primary objective of science should be to improve people's lives and health. I partly agree with this statement because along with improving public health it is also beneficial for numerous inventions.
Commencing with fundamental reasons why science should be useful to improving people's lives. Primarily, it produces various types of medicines. This point is further bolstered by the fact that, by producing various types of medicines, doctors can give new life to various people. By getting useful treatments, people can easily get recovery from any health issue. Various patients also considered doctors as their last option of treatment so doctors must complete their responsibilities properly. Secondly, the main aim scientists is must to improve healthy environment. To elaborate it, various scientists produce pollution during production. But it is also their responsibility to know that consumers are more crucial. Therefore, they take care about them. For example, if doctors want to earn profit, they must complete their responsibility honestly to improve people's lives.
However, the main responsibility of science is not only to improve people's health but also to make various new inventions. To explain it, by focusing only on public health, science cannot able to provide other benefits to people. Therefore, to get other benefits science must focus on new inventions which helps to make life easier.
In conclusion, Although science is useful for new inventions, i reckon that it is helpful to improve people's lives because it helps to provide various medicines and proper treatments to patients.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt but lacks depth in development. While you state you 'partly agree', the arguments provided are somewhat repetitive and lack logical progression. For instance, the focus on doctors and medicine is mentioned multiple times without expanding into broader scientific fields like environmental science or technology. The ideas are relevant but remain at a surface level, and the conclusion does not clearly synthesize the 'partly agree' position, instead focusing almost exclusively on the health aspect. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported idea that directly relates to the prompt's core question.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical. You use transition words like 'Commencing with' and 'Secondly', but these are sometimes used awkwardly. The internal structure of the paragraphs is weak; for example, the second paragraph jumps between the role of doctors, pollution, and profit, which makes the argument difficult to follow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'But it is also their responsibility to know that consumers are more crucial', where the connection to the previous point is tenuous. Improved logical linking between sentences would significantly enhance the clarity of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'various', 'useful', and 'good' repeatedly. There are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'get recovery from any health issue' (should be 'recover from health issues') and 'science cannot able to provide' (grammatically incorrect). To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to scientific advancement and societal impact, and focus on using collocations more accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'the main aim scientists is must to improve' (should be 'the main aim of scientists is to improve') and 'science cannot able to provide' (should be 'science is not able to provide'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with sentence boundaries and word order. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs. Reducing these persistent errors will help demonstrate better control over your writing.
