Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 191 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments remain superficial and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. While you state a clear position in the introduction, the body paragraphs are repetitive and do not fully explore the complexities of the topic. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and specific, illustrative examples. The current length prevents a full development of the task, leading to a lower score for task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with' and 'Furthermore', but these are used somewhat mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the logical flow between sentences is sometimes disrupted by grammatical errors. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by well-connected supporting points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently repeat phrases like 'aim of science' and 'improve people's lives' instead of using synonyms or paraphrasing. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'new discover of science' (should be 'new scientific discoveries') and 'reducing presser' (should be 'reducing pressure'). To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'not necessary scientists do that' and 'which a lot of people suffer from it'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents a higher score. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb tenses.
