Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of science improving lives. The ideas are relevant, focusing on healthcare and global problem-solving. However, the development is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the second paragraph mentions vaccines and medical technology but does not fully explore the 'extent' of the agreement or consider potential counter-arguments or nuances, which is expected for a higher band. The conclusion is brief and restates the introduction rather than synthesizing the arguments. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation or a specific, well-developed example to support the main point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One of the main reasons', 'However', and 'In conclusion'. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To explain it simple' (which should be 'simply') and 'That is to say that if scientists can...'. The flow between sentences is generally logical, but the connection between ideas could be smoother. The use of referencing is occasionally imprecise, which slightly affects the overall flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and sophistication. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'science', 'important', and 'improve'. While the student uses some relevant topic-specific vocabulary such as 'renewable energy', 'fossil fuels', and 'carbon emissions', there are errors in word form and collocation, such as 'most importance aim' instead of 'most important aim' and 'develop people's live' instead of 'improve people's lives'. Expanding the range of synonyms and focusing on correct word forms would help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'I totally agree this point' (missing 'with'), 'science should be develop' (incorrect verb form), and 'it 's helps' (incorrect auxiliary). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with subject-verb agreement and word order. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to limit the score to the 6.0 band.
