Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response is significantly under-length at only 77 words, failing to meet the 250-word minimum requirement. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The student introduces the topic and states a position, but the development of ideas is severely limited. There is no conclusion, and the argument is cut off abruptly. To improve, the student must provide a full essay structure, including an introduction, two or three body paragraphs with supporting examples, and a clear conclusion. The current response lacks the depth and breadth required for an academic task, resulting in a low score for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'On the first hand' and 'while I believe', these are used incorrectly or in a fragmented manner. The lack of a complete structure makes it impossible to assess the student's ability to organize ideas coherently. To improve, the student should focus on using clear topic sentences for each paragraph and linking ideas with a wider range of cohesive devices like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast' to ensure a smooth flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'hardest one' and 'annoying' are simplistic and do not demonstrate the range required for an academic essay. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'subject around the world' instead of 'scientific subjects'. The student struggles to express complex ideas due to a limited lexicon. To improve, the student should practice using more precise, academic vocabulary related to science and society, and focus on correct collocations. Expanding the range of vocabulary will allow for more nuanced arguments.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('peoples agree', 'science is one of the hardest one') and incorrect pronoun usage ('due to his difficulties'). The sentence structures are simple and lack the complexity expected at higher bands. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic grammatical accuracy, such as pluralization and pronoun-antecedent agreement, before attempting more complex sentence structures. Regular practice with sentence construction and proofreading for common errors will be essential for progress.
