Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 180 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments are presented in a very brief and superficial manner. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the supporting points regarding medical and technological advancements are under-developed and lack sufficient depth or specific, well-explained examples. The final paragraph introduces a relevant counter-argument regarding destructive science, but it is too brief to provide a balanced discussion. To improve, you must expand your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for full task development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition 'Just like science develop...' is grammatically awkward and does not effectively link ideas. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'That things need to be stopped,' where the antecedent is vague. While there is a logical progression from medical to technological benefits, the transitions between sentences are often abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' 'in contrast') to create smoother transitions between your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. You rely on simple terms like 'important,' 'good,' and 'easier' throughout the text. There are also several word-choice errors, such as 'The important of science' (should be 'importance') and 'make the life so easier' (should be 'made life much easier'). While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the limited range of vocabulary prevent a higher score. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to scientific progress and societal impact, and pay closer attention to word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('science develop medicines'), incorrect verb tenses ('has help us'), and sentence fragments ('Just like science develop...'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures; most sentences are simple or contain errors when attempting more complex constructions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the use of complex sentences with correct subordinating conjunctions.
