Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the essay is 245 words long, failing to meet the 250-word minimum requirement. This under-length impacts the development of ideas, as the conclusion is quite brief and the arguments could have been more thoroughly explored to reach the required length. While the main ideas regarding healthcare and daily life are relevant and supported by examples, the failure to meet the minimum word count necessitates a penalty in this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'Secondly', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader through the arguments. However, the use of some cohesive devices is slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'people use their that time in some oter things', which disrupts the flow. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'life expectancy', 'healthcare sectors', and 'scientific advancement'. However, there are several spelling errors ('enviornment', 'nowdays', 'oter', 'trrains') and some awkward phrasing like 'aim the healthcare sectors'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'many discoveries have changed people's lives' (missing article), 'when COVID arrives' (tense inconsistency), and 'made vaccination to cure from that' (awkward collocation). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
