Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples like the COVID-19 pandemic and X-ray machines, the explanations are often repetitive and lack depth. The final paragraph is incomplete, which prevents a full exploration of the counter-argument. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by a well-developed explanation and a specific, relevant example. Avoid repeating the same points in different ways, as this does not add value to your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, phrases like 'To detail it out' and 'To explain it out' are not natural academic English. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by these awkward transitions. Additionally, the final paragraph ends abruptly, which disrupts the overall flow of the argument. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'nevertheless') and ensuring they are used correctly will help improve the logical flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'Saving's many lives' (should be 'saving many lives') and 'distinct' (likely meant 'disappear' or 'be eradicated'). You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use less common items effectively. To improve, focus on learning word families and collocations rather than isolated words. Try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to science and societal impact to demonstrate a broader range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'scientist are researching'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'its explanation will be discuss'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'spreading in all over the world'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalisation and sentence boundaries. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like articles, pluralisation, and verb tense consistency. Reducing the frequency of these errors is essential for moving to a higher band.
