The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
To improve people's lives aiming of science should be the most important factor , I strongly agree with this as science has made life around us very easier.
To begin with , at present science plays an important role. It is required everywhere around us, without science one can not live . Primary reason is that it has great influence on technology and machines because if we do not use technology ,we would not be able to study or understand what is going around the world and our surroundings for example - using smart phones, with AI, laptops, washing machines, TV, fridge and much more ,everything is made by using technology which comes from science. Thus, made our life very effortless.
However, the other key factor is nature around us. As it helps us to solve these problems related to natural calamities and disasters. To quote an example - climate change, nature, pollution and living things like plants , animals and much more all are dependent upon it. Therefore, we can predict it through the help of science.
Subsequently, science is also being used in healthcare departments which helps us to understand the knowledge of medicines and healthcare facilities such as ayurvedic medicines, homeopathy and advance technologies. Hence, which are used for the treatments and medications in hospitals as well as medical labs.
In my opinion, people should focus on understanding the importance of science as important aspects of our lives.
In conclusion , science has made our life much easier , comfortable and effortless as it has helped us to understand the world around us.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear agreement with the statement. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention technology, nature, and healthcare, the explanations are brief and lack depth. For instance, the paragraph on nature mentions climate change and disasters but does not clearly link how science's role in predicting these specifically improves lives in a nuanced way. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed examples and ensure that each paragraph directly supports the central argument rather than just listing areas where science is applied.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly awkward, such as starting a paragraph with 'Subsequently' when it does not logically follow the previous point about nature. Additionally, some sentences lack clear logical connections, such as the transition between the mention of healthcare and the concluding sentence of that paragraph. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'made our life very effortless' and 'made life around us very easier' are imprecise. There is a lack of variety in word choice, and some collocations are unnatural. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'technological advancements,' 'mitigate,' or 'pivotal role,' rather than relying on simple adjectives like 'important' or 'easier.' Expanding your range of synonyms will help demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Issues include incorrect word order ('aiming of science should be'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('without science one can not live'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas before conjunctions and after introductory phrases. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
