Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 102 words. This significantly impacts the development of the argument. While the student states a position, the ideas are severely underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth and supporting evidence required for an academic essay. The response is essentially an introduction and a very brief, fragmented paragraph that does not explore the 'extent' of the agreement or provide a balanced view. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, and the response is far too short to demonstrate the ability to develop a coherent argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the second paragraph is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence. There is a lack of logical progression, and the use of cohesive devices is minimal and repetitive (e.g., 'with the help of'). The transition between the introduction and the body is weak, and the overall flow is hindered by the lack of sufficient content to connect ideas effectively. The response does not demonstrate the ability to organize information into a coherent, well-linked argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to express complex ideas. Phrases like 'make individuals life easy' and 'do lots of experiments' are simplistic. There are also errors in word form and collocation, such as 'most used discover of the scientist' instead of 'most significant discovery by scientists'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands, and the errors occasionally make the intended meaning slightly awkward, though the general message remains understandable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('science play vital role') and punctuation errors (missing apostrophes in 'individuals lives' and 'people life'). Sentence structures are simple and lack variety. There are also issues with capitalization, such as the lowercase 'i' when referring to the self. The incomplete sentence at the end further detracts from the grammatical accuracy. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex structures and the persistence of basic errors limit the score.
