Student answer (Band 6.0)

Enhancing the quality of lives must be prioritize by science as advancements are being made by science in almost all fields of life. I am wholeheartedly agree to this concept of improving lives by scientific methods.

On the one hand, technology is being enhance and making everything more accurate by the use of science in almost every field. Science has played a huge role to develop numerous methods in terms of food, treatments and in variety of new discoveries for other different fields. As most of the discoveries are made to treat different kinds of diseases by using scientific methods e.g. chemotherapy, dialysis and much more. Scientists have worked and discovered many beneficial ideas and things in order to make their discoveries successful for fame and rewards. However, people received valuable information from them.

On the other hand, it is more crucial for scientists to do more for the betterment of lives as they can work on various researches to find out the ways we may need in future. They can work on various drugs in order to make treatments more reliable while considering adverse effects of the drugs. As we all know every drug has side effects which we usually use in order to treat particular problem or disease but managing side effects are being challenging for common people. For this reason scientists can discover more alternative drugs that could be fewer in side effects. By this there would be huge improvements in lives.

In conclusion, as science and technology have played huge roles in our lives, the scientists should be more in to make lives easier and improve living by their work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of science focusing on improving lives. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention medical advancements like chemotherapy, the explanation remains superficial. The second body paragraph discusses drug side effects, which is relevant but lacks a broader perspective on how science might balance other goals, such as pure discovery or environmental protection. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed examples and ensure your arguments are fully extended rather than just stated. The conclusion is brief and does not fully summarize the main points presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in your argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. For instance, the transition between the discussion of medical treatments and the motivation of scientists ('for fame and rewards') is abrupt and lacks a smooth logical connection. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'different kinds of diseases' and 'various researches'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'making everything more accurate' and 'scientists should be more in to make lives easier'. While your meaning is clear, the lack of sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary limits the score. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic terminology related to scientific progress and societal impact, and focus on using words in their correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the essay that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'must be prioritize' (should be 'prioritized'), 'I am wholeheartedly agree' (should be 'I wholeheartedly agree'), and 'technology is being enhance' (should be 'enhanced'). The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. While you attempt some complex sentences, they often contain errors in verb tense or passive voice construction. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, passive voice formation, and the correct use of auxiliary verbs.
