Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of science focusing on human improvement. The ideas are relevant, covering health, agriculture, and communication. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding space exploration is introduced but not fully explored in terms of the 'extent' of the agreement. While the main points are clear, the essay would benefit from more detailed examples or a more nuanced discussion of the counter-argument to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from health to technology. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or missing. For example, the transition between the first and second body paragraphs is abrupt, and some sentences lack logical connectors (e.g., 'In farming modren machines are better seeds...'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the punctuation errors—such as missing spaces after periods—hinder the flow of the text. Improved use of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'beleive', 'thhe', 'healtjier', 'soceity', 'modren', 'mosat', 'whilw'). While the student uses some topic-specific vocabulary like 'vaccines', 'poverty', and 'climate change', the overall lexical range is limited. The repetition of simple structures and basic word choices prevents the essay from demonstrating a more sophisticated command of English. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling and incorporating more varied, academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies primarily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical inaccuracies, such as missing articles ('the main goal of the science') and subject-verb agreement issues ('science make our lives'). Punctuation is a significant issue, with many sentences lacking proper spacing after full stops, which makes the text difficult to read. There are frequent errors in basic grammar that, while not completely impeding communication, occur throughout the response. A greater focus on sentence variety and proofreading for basic grammatical rules is necessary.
