Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of science are discussed with examples like mobile phones and environmental awareness, the counter-argument regarding humanities and arts is less effectively integrated into the overall argument. The connection between the counter-argument and the prompt's focus on science is slightly tenuous, as the essay shifts focus to the benefits of arts rather than directly addressing why science might not be the most important aim. To reach a higher band, ensure that every paragraph directly supports or qualifies your central thesis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are used mechanically, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'out of plethora of its merits'. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical link between the second and third paragraphs could be strengthened to create a more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'grateful thing' instead of 'beneficial invention' and 'enhance individual's live' instead of 'improve people's lives'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'artificial-intelligence' and 'eco-friendly', the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring correct word forms (e.g., 'individual's lives' instead of 'live').

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'protect environment'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'Invention of mobile phones are'), and incorrect pluralization (e.g., 'individual's live'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for article usage would be highly beneficial.
