Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argued by some people that the aim of science should help people for better life. Although some might disagree with this notion, I completely agree science goal should help people. Not only because human health and safety, but also because environment protection.

There are multiple benefits associated the aim of science. Firstly, it should helpful for human health. As science should discover a new vaccine. Take an example of Nepal, predicted that after the 2030, people should live more 10 year because science should invent a new vaccine. Hence, aim of science should be helpful for people.

Secondly, safety is also benefits of this. As they may also invent new tool for safety. For instance, China, invent a new safety source that why there less chance of people die in accident. Thus, goal of science should benefit for people.

Finally, environment protection is also another benefit of science. As they invent a pollution free transport. Take an example, pollution free transport not release a gas in environment. Thus, environment is a benefit of science aim.

To sum up, I believe that human health, safety and environment protection is benefit for the people and it also improve the lives of the people. That's I completely agree with this.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The essay addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is limited. The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which restricts the depth of the arguments. While you provide examples like vaccines and pollution-free transport, they are underdeveloped and lack sufficient detail to fully support your claims. The conclusion is repetitive and does not add new insight. To improve, you must expand your body paragraphs with more detailed explanations and specific, well-integrated examples to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'As they may also invent new tool' or 'Take an example, pollution free transport not release a gas'. The progression of ideas is somewhat simplistic, and the transitions between sentences feel repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., using 'this' or 'these' to refer back to previous ideas) is used more precisely to improve the flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple structures like 'help people' or 'benefit of science'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'predicted that after the 2030' and 'pollution free transport not release a gas'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited and lacks the precision required for a higher score. You should focus on learning topic-specific collocations and synonyms to avoid repeating the same phrases throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms ('science should invent', 'people should live more 10 year'), articles, and pluralisation. Complex sentence attempts are often faulty, which impacts the clarity of your arguments. To improve, you need to work on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and the accurate construction of complex sentences. Focusing on basic sentence accuracy before attempting more complex structures will help reduce the frequency of errors that currently impede the flow of your writing.
