Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, though the development of ideas is somewhat limited. You provide relevant points regarding health, technology, and the environment to support your agreement. However, the counter-argument section is underdeveloped; you mention that science explores space and the origin of life, but you do not clearly explain why this contradicts the idea that science should focus on improving lives. To improve, ensure that every point is fully explained with a clear link back to the main prompt. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively summarize your position or the main arguments presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover', but these are often used in a mechanical way. There are issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the fragmented nature of the sentences in the second paragraph (e.g., 'To expalin it that sciencce can explore...'). The progression of ideas is sometimes interrupted by these structural errors, making the flow feel disjointed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are connected smoothly rather than just listed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and lacks precision. You frequently use simple terms like 'good' or 'make' where more specific academic vocabulary would be appropriate. There are also numerous spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'moderen', 'reagrd', 'sciencce', 'dieseases', 'eassir', and 'vehciles'. These errors are frequent enough to occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic words and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to express your ideas with greater clarity and variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'science play crucial role'), missing articles (e.g., 'in moderen life'), and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'it helpful for environment'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. While you attempt some complex ideas, the grammatical inaccuracies often obscure the intended meaning. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex structures.
