Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the topic but lacks a clear, consistent position. While you agree that science improves lives, the argument is fragmented and lacks logical development. The ideas are often repetitive or tangential, such as the lengthy description of the human life cycle and ecosystem, which does not directly support the prompt. The explanation of medical science is relevant but remains underdeveloped and lacks specific, well-reasoned examples to support the extent of your agreement. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, clear argument that directly answers the 'to what extent' aspect of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no paragraphing, which makes it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, leading to a disjointed flow. For example, the transition between discussing the ecosystem and medical science is abrupt. The use of referencing is often unclear, making it difficult to identify what specific nouns are being referred to. To improve, you must organize your response into distinct paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) and use linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'however' to connect your ideas logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate, which frequently impedes communication. There are numerous spelling errors (e.g., 'ascience', 'belive', 'goad', 'wrpks', 'boan', 'thir', 'serval', 'desease', 'knolwed', 'souronding', 'lder'). The range of vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying on simple words to express complex ideas. You struggle to use precise terminology related to the topic of science and medicine. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic words and expanding your vocabulary to include more precise terms related to the prompt, such as 'technological advancement', 'medical intervention', or 'biological limitations'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often distort meaning. There is a lack of control over basic sentence structure, with many run-on sentences and missing punctuation. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent (e.g., 'they make drugs... that the work of science', 'kidneys not bearing'). The use of articles and prepositions is also highly inaccurate. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures, and the frequent errors make the text difficult to read. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for fundamental punctuation and spelling errors.
