Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of science in improving lives. However, the introduction is slightly off-topic, as it focuses on 'public health' rather than the broader scope of the prompt. While the essay provides relevant ideas such as medical advancements and communication, the development is somewhat superficial. The arguments are presented as a list of points rather than a cohesive, well-supported discussion. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points made. To improve, ensure the introduction directly mirrors the prompt and provide more detailed examples to support each main point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression between ideas is sometimes weak. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition' and 'To commence with', they are occasionally used mechanically or incorrectly. For instance, the transition 'Apart from this' at the start of the second paragraph does not logically follow the introduction. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'life acceptance' instead of 'life expectancy' and 'study porpoise' instead of 'study purposes'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more precise academic collocations and ensure that words are used in their correct context. Proofreading for spelling and word-form errors is also essential.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('most of the countries they also used', 'many hospitals has advance treatment') and incorrect verb tenses or forms ('science has greatly improve'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, such as subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage, will significantly improve your writing.
