Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address the prompt by discussing medical and technological advancements, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack depth. The introduction is missing, and the conclusion is abrupt. To improve, you must ensure you provide a clear, balanced introduction, fully expand on your points with specific examples, and ensure the essay reaches the required length to allow for a thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disjointed. Transitions such as 'Apart from this' and 'To commence with' are used, but they are sometimes mechanical or used incorrectly in context. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas between paragraphs is weak. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that links back to the main argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'a number of' and 'good life'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'life acceptance' (likely meaning life expectancy) and 'offer leaving a good life'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to the topic of science and societal development, while ensuring that your word choices are accurate and appropriate for the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('most of the countries they also used', 'many hospitals has advance treatment') and awkward sentence structures. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often marred by errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Proofreading for these common errors is essential to improve your accuracy.
