Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of the statement. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention medical and technological advancements, the arguments lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. The introduction promises to discuss advantages and disadvantages, but the 'disadvantages' section is underdeveloped and does not directly address the prompt's core question about the 'aim' of science. To reach a higher band, you should focus on extending your arguments with more detailed reasoning rather than listing general points. The conclusion is clear, but the overall structure of the argument could be more balanced.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'Another important point is', 'On the other hand'). There are also issues with referencing; for example, the phrase 'like that science has some weaknesses' is awkward and lacks clear logical flow. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the benefits of science and the drawbacks is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple words like 'big', 'good', and 'easy'. There are also several spelling errors ('inventations', 'relabel', 'lasy', 'lean') and word choice inaccuracies ('pupils life' instead of 'people's lives', 'life taking illness' instead of 'life-threatening illnesses'). To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and pay closer attention to spelling and collocations. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repeating the same words throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('science plays', 'discoveries... has saved'), incorrect verb tenses ('which use to take'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of colons and hyphens. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
