Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of science in improving lives, specifically focusing on agriculture and medicine. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you provide examples, they are descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, the example of breeding flowers is a bit simplistic and does not strongly support the argument about the 'most important aim' of science. To reach a higher band, you should explore the 'extent' of your agreement more deeply, perhaps by acknowledging counter-arguments or discussing the ethical implications of scientific progress. The position is clear, but the supporting ideas could be more sophisticated and better linked to the core prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. For example, the transition to the conclusion is abrupt. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the invention of science bring incredible changes', where the subject-verb agreement and logical flow are slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'gense' (genes), 'orignination' (origination), 'homosapiens' (humans), and 'expandation' (expansion). While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'technological revolutions' and 'medical equipments', the misuse of these terms (e.g., 'equipments' is uncountable) limits the score. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common academic terms and ensuring that collocations are accurate. Expanding your range to include more precise, less common vocabulary would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('science supply', 'invention... bring'), article usage ('in the past decades'), and pluralisation ('medical equipments'). While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are persistent and occur in both simple and complex sentences. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules such as third-person singular verb endings and the correct use of countable and uncountable nouns. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences is essential for a higher band.
