Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position agreeing with the statement. Ideas are extended and supported, focusing on workplace productivity, academic benefits, and medical advancements. For instance, the writer discusses how advanced machines reduce common mistakes compared to handworkers and explores medical applications like MRI and CT scans for treating specific disorders. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise in places, and some arguments are slightly repetitive or underdeveloped, such as the brief mention of academic advantages. Overall, the response meets the criteria for Band 6.0, as it addresses the prompt relevantly with clear supporting ideas, although greater depth and precision in development would be required for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, moving from a general introduction to specific body paragraphs covering workplace, education, and medicine, followed by a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To be precise', 'Apart from this', and 'Furthermore', but their application is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, as seen in phrases like 'That's why, if a person suffering from this disease, then the technological subject are useful'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and transitions between sentences can feel abrupt. Paragraphing is present and logical, but the internal flow of ideas needs smoother connection to reach a higher band. Therefore, a band score of 6.0 is appropriate.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'productivity', 'revenues', and 'researchers'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'science subject' instead of 'science', 'technological machines' instead of 'technology', and 'comman mistakes'. Word formation errors are also present, such as 'I largerly agree' and 'benefical'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they reflect a limited control over word choice and spelling, placing the response firmly in the Band 5.0 to 5.5 range. A score of 5.5 is awarded as the vocabulary is minimally adequate for conveying the intended message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to noticeable grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('science subject is play'), incorrect verb forms ('science should be assist'), and awkward phrasing ('the specific cancer disorder are treating through the utilize'). Punctuation is generally functional, but structural errors recur throughout the essay, causing some difficulty for the reader. While communication is not entirely obscured, the frequency of basic and complex grammatical mistakes prevents the response from reaching Band 6.0, making Band 5.0 a fair and accurate assessment.
