Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the main aim of science should be to improve people's lives, taking a clear stance in agreement. The ideas presented are relevant, focusing primarily on the medical sector, such as treatments for acute versus chronic diseases. However, the development of these ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive, tending to over-generalize without fully extending the arguments with deep analysis. For instance, the discussion on companies prioritizing short-term profits for acute diseases touches on a valid point, but the explanation remains basic. There is a tendency for the argument to become slightly confused regarding how medical research directly connects to the broader philosophical prompt. Consequently, this performance aligns best with Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the text is divided into logical paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is frequently mechanical, awkward, or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To commence with the first agreement' and 'Another compelling point on agreement' sound unnatural and disrupt the flow of reading. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and transitional phrases do not always create smooth logical bridges between sentences, such as the abrupt shift in the second paragraph ('Then, why not enhancing the medical sector?'). Paragraphing is present and serves to separate main ideas, but overall cohesive management is faulty. Therefore, a Band 5.5 score is appropriate here.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The writer attempts to use a range of less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary era', 'morbidity', 'mortality rates', and 'chronic diseases'. However, there are frequent word choice, collocation, and word formation errors throughout the text. Examples include 'science growing rapidly' (missing auxiliary verb/gerund form), 'to enhanced everyone's lives' (incorrect infinitive form), 'curation of bone cancer can not be find' (wrong lexical item and passive voice error), and 'researchers studying on acute disease' (incorrect preposition). While the vocabulary used is adequate to convey the general meaning, the persistent lexical inaccuracies place this firmly in the Band 5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak. There are frequent, noticeable errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'science growing rapidly and achieving new milestone' (missing verb and pluralization error), 'new surgeries are enable to cured disease' (incorrect verb forms), and 'will be create a life-threatening situation' (double modal/verb error). Punctuation and article usage also show persistent issues. Because simple sentences are often error-free while complex attempts result in frequent grammatical mistakes, this performance merits a Band 5.0.
