Student answer (Band 5.0)

Companies emphasize that their products are new, the main reason is that people want to buy new models of a product every year. Actually a certain group of people is demanding new models of a product because they get bored with one type of product. People also want to have sense of achievement, they want to show off to others. Companies also want to remain in market and competition with other companies. Companies do not want people to forget them. Companies want to realize their importance to  a certain group of people. Companies claim that their prodcuts are new because they also have to show off it in their advertisements through social media. Most companies only change colours and size creates curiousity among people. People eager to buy those products. For instance, many companies are introducing thier models every year, most often it is demand from their customers e.g; iPhone, Samsung etc.

In my perspective this is a negative development. If a company is not willing to introduce a new product or a new model, company should not do it. Launching a new product which is not a high quality and its price is also too much high. Such kind of practices reduce the significance of a product. Most of the people will buy a product for one time but again they will not be interested in it anymore. So, claiming a product as new only can be beneficial, if it is containing some extra-ordinary specifications. For example, Honda company introduce their model of motorycycle every year, which does not have good modifications as a result, it has failed to win trust of their customers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response struggles significantly with the prompt. The task asks whether the most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives. However, the student focuses entirely on consumer products, marketing strategies, and annual smartphone or motorcycle models rather than discussing science or its core aims. While the writer states a position ('In my perspective this is a negative development'), the ideas are largely off-topic, as commercial business practices are conflated with scientific research and development. Because the core prompt regarding science is not addressed, the task response is fundamentally limited, aligning with a Band 4.5 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into two paragraphs, but the overall organization and logical progression are weak. The first paragraph jumps haphazardly between consumer motivations, company strategies, social media, and product examples without clear transitions. Cohesive devices are minimal or repetitive; for instance, sentences frequently start with 'Companies' or 'People', creating a mechanical feel ('Companies emphasize...', 'Actually a certain group...', 'Companies also want...'). Paragraphing is poorly handled, as the introduction of the writer's perspective and counter-arguments are bundled together rather than logically structured. These issues indicate a Band 5.0 level.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on everyday words such as 'company', 'product', 'people', and 'new'. There are several unnatural collocations and word choices, such as 'price is also too much high', 'creates curiousity among people', and 'win trust of their customers' (missing articles). While the meaning is generally communicated despite these limitations, the range of vocabulary lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands, placing this aspect firmly at a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing relies heavily on simple sentence structures and repetitive clauses, with limited successful attempts at complex grammar. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding missing articles ('in market and competition', 'introduce their model of motorycycle'), run-on or comma-spliced structures ('Most companies only change colours and size creates curiousity among people. People eager to buy those products.'), and incorrect comparative forms ('too much high'). Although the meaning can usually be pieced together, the frequency of errors places this response at a Band 5.0.
