Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the main aim of science should be to improve human lives, taking a clear stance of agreement. The writer covers several areas such as medicine, education, and entertainment to support this position. However, the development of ideas tends to be somewhat superficial and descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, the paragraph on entertainment focuses heavily on apps like TikTok and Instagram without fully tying this back to the core argument of improving human lives in a deeper, more academic sense. Furthermore, some arguments rely on sweeping generalizations. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the overall depth of exploration aligns best with a Band 6.0 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, paragraphing and logical progression reveal significant weaknesses. The body paragraphs are poorly organized; for example, the second body paragraph abruptly shifts from medical advancements to education ('Science have a major role in the education') within the same block of text. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or are missing, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'The second main advantage in the entertainment', which lacks a complete noun phrase. Additionally, transitional phrases are basic and repetitive, leading to a disjointed flow that fits the Band 5.0 criteria.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases like 'conducive facilities', 'fatal disease', and 'technological gadgets'. However, there are frequent inappropriate word choices and collocations, such as 'The first approach of science in the medicine field', 'science derived many effective sources', and 'From my prespective'. Spelling and morphological errors also occur, such as 'resturants' instead of restaurants. While communication is not severely impeded, the density of lexical inaccuracies prevents the score from reaching a higher band, making Band 5.0 an accurate reflection of the writer's lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, demonstrating a limited range of grammatical structures. Grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Noticeable mistakes include subject-verb agreement issues ('Science play a great role', 'Science have a major role', 'Tik Tok provides'), tense errors ('scientists predicted we made robots'), and missing prepositions or articles ('in the medicine field', 'without the science'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also handled inconsistently. Due to the high frequency of basic and complex structural errors, the response fits the Band 5.0 descriptor.
