Student answer (Band 5.5)

The science is changing the world day by day through it inventions and discoveries. The main aim of these scientific research is to improve the life of people. In my opinion the science has made the life of the human beings much more easier and efficient.

One of my first example is airplane. The airplane makes a revolution in avionics field, from this invention people has created satellites which is again another great example. The airplane help people to travel from one point of the world to hte other in few hours, which were done in days or even months in past.

The second example i will say that the mobile phone and other communicating devices. These inventions not only make the life of people easier but also connected whole world together. Now our world is a global village, nothing is hidden from us. These devices also make the make learning easier. You can learn anything on these gadgets without leaving your house.

My last example will be related to the field of medical science, due to science many incurealbe diseases which was the reason of many deaths in the past are now cureable. One of the best example of that kind of disease is poliyo. Poliyo is almost vanished from our society. Now a days doctors using artificial intelligence to do remote surgeries which not only safe hunderds of lifes.

At the conclusion I would say that the science not only make the life of a common person easier, simpler and improved but also make him a better man.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the main aim of science should be to improve people's lives, taking a clear position that it indeed makes human life easier and more efficient. The writer presents relevant examples, such as airplanes, mobile phones, and medical advancements like the eradication of polio and artificial intelligence in surgeries. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and relies heavily on listing examples rather than deeply exploring the philosophical or practical arguments surrounding the statement. Consequently, the task response aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors, as all parts of the task are addressed, but certain ideas remain slightly under-developed and lack extended analytical commentary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs dedicated to distinct examples, and a concluding statement. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the ideas. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical. The transitions between paragraphs and sentences feel abrupt, marked by phrases like 'One of my first example' and 'The second example i will say that'. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, and logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. These issues place the response firmly in Band 6, where cohesion can be faulty or mechanical, and referencing is not always completely consistent.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday and scientific concepts such as 'global village', 'artificial intelligence', and 'communicating devices'. There are, however, noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'incurealbe' instead of incurable, 'poliyo' instead of polio, and 'hunderds of lifes' instead of hundreds of lives. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are evident, but these inaccuracies and spelling mistakes prevent the response from reaching higher bands. Because the errors do not severely impede overall communication, the lexical resource is best evaluated at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'The science is changing' and 'due to science many incurealbe diseases which was', as well as tense inconsistencies ('which were done' instead of 'which were done in the past' without proper parallel structure). While these errors do not completely obscure the intended meaning, they occur frequently enough to cause occasional difficulty for the reader. This performance aligns with the Band 5 descriptors.
