Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The candidate presents a clear position throughout the essay, largely agreeing that the primary purpose of science should be improving lives. Relevant ideas regarding healthcare and technological advancements are introduced and supported with examples, such as access to healthcare facilities and face-to-face communication technology. However, the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 231 words instead of the required 250 words. This under-length impacts the full development of ideas, leading to a penalty under Task Achievement. Consequently, the score is restricted to Band 5.5, as the task is addressed only partially due to the length shortfall.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs on healthcare and technology, and the conclusion. Logical transitions are attempted, such as 'Admittedly,' and 'On the other hand,' which help guide the reader through the arguments. However, cohesion is occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in comma splices ('People in a contemporary society have instant access to all the healthcare services, they can comprehend...') and minor referencing issues. Overall organisation is present, but progression can feel somewhat formulaic, leading to a Band 6.0 rating for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The candidate demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'contemporary society,' 'breakthrough advancements,' 'cutting-edge technology,' and 'feasible.' However, there are noticeable word choice errors, spelling mistakes, and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'making the life convenient' instead of 'making life convenient,' 'date back centuries' instead of 'centuries ago,' and 'scientist are doing researches' instead of 'scientists are conducting research' (along with spelling slips like 'belive' and 'poeple'). These minor lexical inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures such as 'which was just a dream years ago but it is now feasible because of significant technological shift.' However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in article usage, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation, including comma splices and run-on sentences in the conclusion ('provinding them with healthcare facilities, additionally by making the life...'). Because errors occur regularly alongside a limited variety of complex structures that often contain flaws, the appropriate score for Grammatical Range and Accuracy is Band 5.0.
