Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt directly by taking a clear position that science should primarily aim to improve people's lives. The writer identifies key areas such as healthcare, daily life convenience, and environmental problem-solving. Ideas are generally relevant, but the development is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth in places, particularly in the conclusion and final body paragraph. For instance, the point regarding environmental problems ('science solve environmental probelms can be conidered as leading benefit') states a valid idea, but the explanation lacks specific elaboration compared to the healthcare paragraph. Nevertheless, all parts of the prompt are addressed, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, utilising transition markers such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Finally' to structure the response. However, cohesion is often mechanical and awkward, as seen in incomplete introductory links ('Not only because of improve health care...') and faulty referencing. Paragraph breaks are used appropriately to divide distinct ideas, but the progression within paragraphs occasionally falters due to abrupt transitions and run-on sentences, such as in the final paragraph. Overall, the structural framework is present, corresponding to a Band 5.5 or 6.0, but mechanical cohesion limits fluidity.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases such as 'sustainable technologies', 'carbon emission', and 'information technology'. However, there are frequent word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'imformation technology cancer diagonsis' instead of 'diagnosis', 'agreenment' instead of 'agreement', and 'improve environmental problems' rather than 'address' or 'solve'. Spelling errors like 'diagonsis', 'probelms', and 'carnon' also occur. While communication is maintained, these inaccuracies prevent the lexical score from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. Examples include 'make the daily life more easy even we can performed most difficult task easily can also be another major benefit', which lacks a main verb and is structurally tangled. Subject-verb agreement and prepositions also show frequent errors, such as 'ratio of patient died with cancer'. These errors occasionally impede readability, placing the grammar firmly in the Band 5.0 range.
