Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the current societal landscape, individuals often believe that main motive of learning science should be to improve masses lives. I fully agree with this statement and this essay will discuss why.

The major reason to support this statement is that science promotes logical and sensible thinking in individuals mind. In other words, science contain various practicals with the help of which researches are implemented for the well being of human beings. For instance, science is major subject to become a doctor so in this way science is helping people to get cure from various diseases. Furthermore, enginners need to choose science in further studies so they can earn more and they also play necessary role in improving lives by construction of roads and houses. Scientist have more responsibilities to apply their knowledge to solve urgent crisis like climate, diseases and more. They have more moral responsib

The another reason is that science helps people to become more advance and build better understanding in them. Means, with the help of science various reseaches are done and provide knowledge about every field. For instance, earlier time people were not aware that every product is made with the carbon structure. Moreover, more machines are build now which makes agriculture easy and increases crop production and decreases malnutrition among people.

To sum up, most important aim for science is to improve people lives because this improve there day to day life and building logical thinking in them. Moreover, i entirely agree with this statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating an opinion agreeing that the most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives. The student attempts to extend ideas by discussing logical thinking, practical applications in medicine and engineering, and agricultural advancements. However, the development is somewhat limited and repetitive in places. For instance, the discussion on doctors and engineers is brief and lacks sufficient expansion. Furthermore, the second body paragraph relies on vague generalisations such as "earlier time people were not aware that every product is made with the carbon structure." The text also cuts off abruptly at the end of the second body paragraph ("They have more moral responsib"), which impacts task completion. Overall, the response meets the criteria for Band 5.0, as it addresses the task partially and contains under-developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into four paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing a basic attempt at structure. However, overall progression is hindered by abrupt transitions and a truncated second body paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, such as "The major reason", "Furthermore", and "To sum up", but referencing and collocation within cohesive links are sometimes awkward, as seen in phrases like "The another reason is that..." Paragraphing is attempted, but the underdeveloped and unfinished nature of the writing affects the logical flow. Overall, this performance aligns with Band 5.0 due to some organisation but a lack of clear overall progression and mechanical use of cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several noticeable errors in word choice and spelling. Examples of spelling and lexical inaccuracies include "societal landscape", "masses lives" (instead of the masses' lives), "practicals" (used as a noun), "enginners", "advance" (used instead of advanced), and "reseaches". While the student attempts some less common vocabulary such as "malnutrition" and "crisis", the frequent errors in spelling and word formation cause some difficulty for the reader. This performance fits the Band 5.0 descriptor, reflecting a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary with noticeable errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as missing articles ("science is major subject", "earlier time people"), incorrect pluralisation or noun forms ("in individuals mind", "disease" instead of diseases), and subject-verb agreement issues ("science contain", "machines are build"). Punctuation is also problematic, notably with run-on phrasing and incomplete sentences caused by the text cutting off abruptly. Due to the frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader and a limited range of reliable structures, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
