Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that the most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives. Ideas are presented regarding infrastructure, healthcare, and transportation, which directly link back to the core theme of improving daily existence. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat constrained by limited elaboration and awkward phrasing, placing the response around Band 6.0. While all parts of the task are addressed and a clear stance is maintained, the support for some points remains somewhat under-developed, particularly regarding how infrastructure and transportation directly serve as the primary aims of science. Nevertheless, the central argument is relevant and sustained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing used to separate distinct ideas, such as infrastructure, healthcare, and transportation. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. The writer relies heavily on transitional phrases like 'to begin with', 'Moreover', and 'furthermore', yet sentence-to-sentence referencing is sometimes unclear, notably with pronouns ('this', 'these') that lack clear antecedents. Furthermore, punctuation and capitalisation errors at the start of sentences (e.g., 'to begin with, As in today's...') disrupt the flow. Overall organisation is evident, but the management of cohesive devices aligns best with the Band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'infrastructure', 'amenities', and 'disabilities'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice, form, and collocation. Examples include 'researcher are constantly trying to do improvisation to make it batter' (improvements/better), 'will not loss it's home' (lose their homes), and 'medical line' (medical field). Spelling errors like 'batter' for better and 'filed' for field occur multiple times. Because these errors are noticeable but do not severely impede communication, the performance fits the Band 5.0 profile.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'researcher are', 'disease doesn't depend'), incorrect verb forms ('Many people believes'), and sentence fragments or run-on structures (e.g., starting sentences with lowercase letters or disjointed clauses like 'While many middle class individuals also owns personal vehicle but always complains'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a Band 6.0, landing more comfortably at Band 5.0.
