Student answer (Band 5.0)
It has been observed that science is making alot of innovations throughot the 21st century to make ensure that people are living their healthy lives. Although some people believe that the most crucial goal in science should be to improve lives of the people. I agree the given statement to a large extent. My inclination is elaborated in ensuring paragraph and relevant examples.
The foremost arguement to justify my stand is that science is and emerging field with alot of new advances such as in multiple fields like microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry etc the ongoing reseacrh on previous and new diseases is contiue. Scientists are trying their best to deal with these and by doing experiments they are making progress in many diseases. For instance, cancer, diabetes, heart , alzheimer etc. Besides this, it is also true that by doing full body test twice in a year people will come to know the outcomes beforehand that what is going in their bodies. For example, LFT, RFT, CBC etc. Furthermore, the other reason to prove my point is that it is also making development in medicine and healthcare fields such as in 2019 when covid was spread , scientist made vaccine to cure and uphold it's spread throughout the world by direct experimenting the trail on humans. On the contrary, some people counter claim the mentioned support. The foremost arguement they do is that they consider it unethical like scientists are making babies outside the featus also called as invitro fertilization because they discard the error ones which is not acceptable in some religions.
To conclude the discussion, it can be said that despite the fact of science is making progress but some non-religious factors are also included. My reasons that for making future developments to some extent these logics are acceptable.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the main aim of science should be to improve people's lives, taking a clear stance of agreement to a large extent. The writer introduces relevant ideas regarding medical advancements such as biotechnology, treatments for diseases like cancer, and the development of vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, some arguments are under-developed or presented in a somewhat disjointed manner, such as the sudden pivot to full-body check-ups and the brief counter-argument concerning in-vitro fertilization. While the main position is clear throughout, the support for the ideas lacks depth and structural clarity in places, placing this response comfortably within the Band 5.5 to 6 range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a basic organizational structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, paragraphing is somewhat irregular, with the first body paragraph becoming overly dense and listing disparate ideas together without clear transitions. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes mechanically or awkwardly, such as 'The foremost arguement to justify my stand is that science is and emerging field' and 'On the contrary, some people counter claim the mentioned support.' Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall progression between ideas feels abrupt at times. This reflects the characteristics of Band 5.0 to 5.5 for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic discussion, including terms such as 'microbiology', 'biotechnology', 'biochemistry', and 'vaccine'. However, there are frequent errors in word formation, spelling, and collocation. Examples include 'alot', 'throughot', 'make ensure', 'arguement', 'contiue', 'featus', and 'invitro fertilization'. These lexical errors and spelling mistakes occasionally detract from the reading experience, though meaning is generally decipherable. These features align with a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and introductory phrases. However, frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the essay, including subject-verb agreement issues ('scientist made vaccine', 'disease is contiue'), punctuation errors, and awkward phrasing ('by direct experimenting the trail on humans'). While complex structures are attempted, they are often faulty, and errors require the reader to occasionally re-read parts of the text. This performance corresponds to a Band 5.0.
