Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the main aim of science should be to improve people's lives and clearly states an agreement with the statement. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as medical advancements, internet communication, online classes, and household technology, while also touching upon potential drawbacks like excessive mobile phone usage and isolation. However, many of these ideas are under-developed, repetitive, and lack sufficient extension or specific academic support. The conclusion and final body section contain several fragmented and repetitive thoughts rather than fully formed arguments. Consequently, the response aligns best with a Band 5, as it addresses the task and takes a position, but the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay attempts some basic paragraphing and uses transitional markers such as "To commence," "On the other hand," and "In conclusion." However, the overall logical progression is frequently disrupted by disjointed sentences and unclear referencing. For instance, phrases like "Alla the time they use the internet. In additional, people are include the happyness and grief each other" create abrupt shifts in meaning that impede smooth reading. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or inaccurate, and paragraph boundaries do not always contain unified topics, as seen in the final paragraph which bundles multiple fragmented ideas together. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 4 to Band 5 range, leaning towards a 4.5 due to the noticeable lack of coherent progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used throughout the essay is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words like "important," "science," "life," and "people." There are numerous instances of incorrect word choice, unnatural collocations, and word-formation errors, such as "humans life," "women's home work," "Washin dishes," "deveple," and "abtain the knowledge." These lexical errors and limited range cause strain for the reader and prevent the communication from being precise. Because the vocabulary is largely restricted to basic terms with frequent errors in form and spelling, the response corresponds to a Band 4.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical structures attempted are heavily constrained, consisting largely of simple sentences with frequent errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions. Examples of grammatical breakdowns include "If a human suffering from the diseases so they are well due to science," "He does not come to collage," and "people should abtain the knowledge though the science." Complex structures are rarely attempted, and when they are, they are typically faulty. Errors are pervasive throughout nearly every sentence, frequently causing difficulty and confusion for the reader. This performance reflects the descriptors for Band 4.
