Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of science in improving human lives, providing various examples such as agricultural advancements, penicillin, and transportation. A clear position is maintained throughout, agreeing with the statement. However, some ideas are relatively brief and underdeveloped, such as the passing mention of global peace, which prevents the essay from reaching higher bands. The main arguments regarding health, food production, and technology are logically presented and relate well to the prompt, fulfilling the core requirements of Task Achievement at a competent level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Ideas are grouped into paragraphs, focusing on health, food, and technology. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or lacking, and referencing can occasionally be unclear, as seen in transitions like 'Once there was a time' and 'Somehow, many issues still need attention'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved to ensure smoother progression and logical connection between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'intervention', 'globalization', and 'horizons of trade'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('adn', 'well develpod', 'scientist haber synthesis') and awkward word choices ('positive track adopted by science', 'lot of needed'). These lexical inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the score to this level because precision and control are lacking in several places.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses ('which became the scaffold') and passive structures ('are being developed'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('nature help the human peniciline is discovered'), missing auxiliary verbs or articles ('lot of needed to amke'), and punctuation. While the meaning is generally clear despite these errors, the high frequency of slips prevents the grammar from reaching the Band 6 threshold.
