Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether the primary aim of science should be to improve people's lives, expressing a clear agreement. However, the response suffers from a significant under-length issue, containing only 209 words compared to the minimum requirement of 250 words. This impacts the overall development of ideas. While the writer touches upon health, communication, and travel, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack the necessary depth and extension expected for higher bands. For instance, the discussion on health mentions cancer and chemotherapy ("cimo therapy"), but these points are compressed rather than fully explained. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, warranting a band score of 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, showing an attempt at logical organization. However, the overall progression is hindered by simplistic transitions and formulaic phrases like "in this essay i will write some reasons for my view" and "On the other hand." Cohesive devices are often used inaccurately or repetitively, such as the overuse of "As result." Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs feels mechanical and disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, which disrupts the flow of ideas. These features align closely with the Band 5 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently constrained by spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include "life expertency" (life expectancy), "medicenes" (medicines), "conviniant" (convenient), and "cimo therapy" (chemotherapy). The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as "advance equipment" and "worldwide," but these attempts are marred by inaccurate morphology and spelling. While the meaning can generally be understood despite the errors, the limited range and frequent inaccuracies restrict the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
Grammatically, the response displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex sentences that are heavily flawed. There are foundational errors throughout the text, such as "people are believe that science should to improve" and "doctor have many advance equipment." Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, as seen in lowercase pronouns ("i") and awkward clause structures ("if any person ha medical emergency then person can go hospital quickly"). These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect Band 5 grammatical control.
