Student answer (Band 5.5)
In this modern era, the field of science is improvising gradually day by day. Owing to this, a segment of individual argue that the most crucial aim for science is to improve people lives. However, i completely believe that people lives should be a most significant aim of science and the reason will be discuss in the upcoming paragraph.
First and prominent reason why people lives should be a important aim of science is improvising healthcare and saving lives. To explain it further, Science help us to produce medicines, vaccines and medical treatment. It helps us to prevent deadly diseases and saves lives. For instance, few years back as per the reports Covid19 took so many lives of people and disturb the life expectancy. However, discovery of vaccines with the assistance of scientific research help to prevent this deadly disease from this world and increase life expectancy. Secondly, another primary reason is improving everyday lives. To elaborate this, nowadays science and its modern technology has made people lives comfortable and convenient by finding modern technologies such as mobiles phone, laptop, internet, electricity, transportation and household appliance. Moreover, without this technologies no one can imagine their lives.
Another reason for agreeing with this opinion is solving social and environmental problems. To put it in other words, using the science scientist can address the environmental issue by which global warning is increasing and people can get some knowledge like how many steps they can take to improve their surrounding by growing trees as much they can.
Although, improvising people lives is important. However, it should not be the only necessarily and most important aim of science. Expanding human knowledge is also a necessary thing. To explain it, some scientific research is conducted simply to understand how universe works. Understanding about the space, physics, astronomy and biology is also crucial thing to learn about.
Conclusively, aim of science should not only be a improving people lives but to gain knowledge thorough it about how universe works and what is the life outside the earth also need to understand. However, i believe the most significant aim of science should be a improving individual lives by improving healthcare and daily lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position throughout that science should primarily improve people's lives while also acknowledging the importance of expanding knowledge. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations and examples, such as the mention of Covid-19 vaccines and everyday technology. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise or remain slightly under-developed, particularly in the discussion of environmental problems and fundamental research. Despite these minor limitations, the main position is well sustained and directly answers the prompt. This performance aligns comfortably with the Band 6.5 to 7 descriptors, and is awarded a solid Band 6.0 due to some under-developed supporting points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at logical organisation. Paragraphing is utilised, with an introduction, distinct body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical, relying heavily on repetitive transition phrases like 'To explain it further', 'To elaborate this', and 'To put it in other words'. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and the links between sentences can feel abrupt. Although the progression of ideas is discernible, the heavy reliance on formulaic cohesive devices prevents the response from reaching a higher band. These characteristics correspond directly to the Band 6 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting less common items such as 'life expectancy', 'household appliance', and 'astronomy'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'segment of individual' instead of 'individuals', 'improvising' instead of 'improving', and 'thorough it'. Spelling and morphological issues also appear, such as 'Covid19' and 'warning' instead of 'warming'. While these lexical inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, they restrict the vocabulary score. The range and error frequency fit well within the Band 6 criteria.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure with dependent clauses and conditional elements. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and article usage, such as 'people lives' instead of 'people's lives', 'reason will be discuss', 'Science help us', and 'without this technologies'. Punctuation is also problematic in places, notably with sentence fragments and comma splices like 'Although, improvising people lives is important. However, it should not be...' While the errors are noticeable and cause some distraction for the reader, they rarely impede overall communication, placing this response firmly at Band 5.5.
