I completely agree with the statement as the study of science is based on dealing with the issues present around by searching the unknown, finding the problem, decoding the solution and then experimenting and developing the solution. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that science should focus on improving human lives. However, the task achievement is heavily compromised by the length requirement not being met. The student's response contains only 196 words, which falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum. Because of this under-length penalty, ideas are cut short and remain underdeveloped, as seen in the abrupt ending of the third paragraph ("the house we live, the road we travel, the"). Consequently, the response cannot be awarded a band higher than 5.0 for this criterion, as the development is limited and truncated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs, and an attempt at logical progression. The writer uses some basic cohesive devices such as "Furthermore" and "For example". However, referencing and paragraphing are negatively impacted by the incomplete nature of the response. The final paragraph cuts off mid-sentence, disrupting the cohesion. Additionally, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as linking industrialization and urbanization in the second paragraph without fully fleshing out the logical bridge. Overall, the structure shows a basic organizational framework, but falls into Band 5 due to the abrupt cessation and occasional lack of clear progression between ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as "pivotal focus", "decoding the solution", and "morphology". However, there are numerous vocabulary and spelling errors throughout the text, including "shound" instead of "should", "convinient" instead of "convenient", "industrilization" instead of "industrialisation", "physic" instead of "physics", and "anomal" instead of "animal". Collocations are also occasionally imprecise, such as "the experiment in chemical provide us the medicine". Despite these errors, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the basic meaning, placing this criterion at a Band 5.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues ("improving lives of a human shound be", "each and every branch of science are"), missing articles ("the experiment in chemical provide us"), and incorrect preposition use ("studying about plants"). Furthermore, the unfinished final sentence demonstrates a lack of complete syntactic control over longer sentences. This range of errors and limited control over complex forms places the grammar score at 5.0.
