Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that one of the crucial aim of science should be to improve people's lives. I completely agree with this view because it can solve health issues, environment and social problems.

One of the major reason is that science can cure disease like for instance, there was a disease known as corona virus which had large impact in daily live where milllions of people where killed and that's when scientists came up vaccines to help cure this disease. They can can create medicine other things which can help us in our daily lives. Scientist researcher explore and try to make the environment liveable and simpler. They can invent things which can help us by do experiments and they also can make predictions for future.

Explore too much can damage nature which may lead to global warming or climate change. There has been increase in global warming and sudden changes in climate which can be dangers for the future. Scientist should explore and damage environment followed by the people. Like for an example, inventing fuel transportation has created a large effect in environment such as increase in pollution, traffic, global warming and many other reasons which cause the nature. It can lead to many disadvantages in future.

In conclusion, science can be beneficial for people's lives and help them cure diseases. It can make our lives simpler and accessible. However, too much os research can distroy the natural which can lead to difficulties in future. Scientist need to make sure that they explore what should be and not damage environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout the essay. The response discusses both the benefits of science, such as curing diseases, and the potential drawbacks, such as environmental damage. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, relying on brief, repetitive examples like the coronavirus without deeper elaboration. While a clear position is presented, the arguments lack the extension and depth expected for a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure, including an introduction, body paragraphs for opposing views, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in transitions like 'One of the major reason is' and 'Like for an example'. Paragraphing is used, but the logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by abrupt shifts in ideas and referencing issues, such as in the third paragraph where the argument about environmental damage becomes convoluted. These limitations place the performance firmly at a Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'environmental', 'sustainable' (implied), and 'global warming'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and word forms, such as 'crucial aim' instead of 'aims', 'corona virus' (spelling), 'liveable', 'distroy', and 'natural' used as a noun. Repetition of words like 'science', 'explore', and 'environment' restricts the range, but the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, aligning with a Band 5.5 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('one of the crucial aim'), missing articles, run-on sentences ('there was a disease known as corona virus which had large impact in daily live where milllions of people where killed and that's when...'), and incorrect prepositions. Punctuation errors are also present. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher band, making a Band 5.0 appropriate.
