Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether science should primarily aim to improve people's lives, expressing a clear position agreeing with the statement to a large extent. The writer includes relevant ideas in both body paragraphs, such as medical advancements and environmental benefits, while also acknowledging potential drawbacks like animal testing and ecological harm. However, some arguments are underdeveloped or overly generalized, such as the claim regarding wildlife and climate breakdown, which lacks specific elaboration. The conclusion attempts to summarize the points made, although the essay structure somewhat contradicts the original thesis statement by promising to discuss 'both aspects' in a way that suggests a neutral stance before taking a strong one. Overall, the performance aligns with the requirements of Band 6.0 as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion appropriately. Cohesive devices are employed to structure the response, such as 'On the one hand,' 'Additionaly,' and 'On the other hand.' However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, typographical errors in transitional phrases like 'Fiist and foremost' and punctuation spacing issues disrupt the flow. Furthermore, the progression within paragraphs occasionally feels disjointed due to awkward phrasing and grammatical slips, which prevents the essay from achieving a higher band score. Logical organization is present, but the mechanics of cohesion require better control to meet the Band 6 descriptors effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student attempts to use a range of less common vocabulary suited to the academic task, including terms such as 'contemporary era,' 'ameliorate,' 'paramount objective,' 'sustainable development,' and 'proliferates life expectancy.' However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'conveninet' (convenient), 'human's lives' (human lives), 'ample of rationals' (ample rationale), and 'mitigates the pollution' (mitigate pollution). Spelling mistakes ('Fiist', 'Additionaly', 'reseraches', 'releated') also occur. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task and communicates meaning despite the inaccuracies, these frequent lexical errors place the performance firmly in the Band 6 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as relative clauses and conditional-like constructions ('owing to which assist to prevent', 'when they have to make any kind of medicines then they harm'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. Examples include 'science should be to improve people's lives', 'human's lives should be ameliorate', 'it puts adverse impact', and 'natural life detrimentally effected'. Punctuation and spacing errors (e.g., missing spaces after periods and commas) are also prevalent. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a level consistent with a Band 5.0 due to the frequency of structural inaccuracies.
