Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people hold the belief that the most significant goal of science is improving the life of individuals while other consider that various other aspects are equally important. From my perspective, the primary goal of science is to make people life better .So ,I strongly agree with the given statement.
From my point of view, the study of chemicals, compounds and other various aspects should be mainly focus on improving the health of people. These had contributed a lot to the provide solutions to the multiple health challenges. Whenever, the countries face pandemics like plague,Covid-19 and Jaundice ,the scientists always finds an antibacterial components to fight with these diseases. Thus , in other words science is mostly used in the protection of individuals health.
Additionally , various physics theories helped people to enjoy the comforts of life. For instance, the people having eyes issue can have treatment and get their eyesight back with the advanced laser operations. All these are possible only by the knowledge of lenses and major discoveries by the scientists. Thus, having the inventions in some sectors related science are always beneficial. Various advanced machinery is used in medical sectors to help the patients and doctors in the proper assessment of disease.
Further reinforcing my view, i think that science had really improved the standard of living in this advanced era. Nowadays, more and more people are using the advanced scientific inventions like solar panels and wind energy . As a result ,they are less dependant on the scarce resouces and enjoy the renewable resources in the households as well as in the agriculture or other commercial usage.
However, I understand that some people might believe that other inventions related to the space ,and planets are also necessary .They may think that science also plays a vital role in these aspects. I agree with this notion, but again these things should be secondary and not the primary goals of science. What can be do with sending satellites to the space ,while people are dying of some disease. Also, striking a balance in these areas is really necesary.
In conclusion, I understand the role of science in various aspects, however I feel that the main goal should be making the lives of people better .Therefore, I think that main focus should be on improving the people's lives rather than getting new discoveries about the life on other planets.

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position throughout the response that strongly agrees with the statement. The ideas are extended and supported, such as discussing how medical research and renewable energy contribute to improving people's lives, as seen in the mention of 'advanced laser operations' and 'solar panels and wind energy'. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise slightly in the development of some arguments, and certain points are somewhat repetitive, such as the concluding remarks reiterating the core stance without introducing deeper nuance. Overall, the prompt is adequately and clearly covered, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0, and is best placed at Band 6.5 due to under-developed supporting examples in places.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, dedicating distinct paragraphs to health, physical sciences, daily life standards, and counterarguments. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Additionally', 'Further reinforcing my view', and 'However', although referencing and transitions can occasionally feel mechanical or slightly awkward, as seen with spacing errors around punctuation. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to group related ideas. While progression is generally clear, the mechanical nature of some cohesive links prevents the response from reaching higher bands. Therefore, a score of 6.0 is appropriate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'antibacterial components', 'assessment of disease', and 'scarce resources'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'make people life better' instead of 'make people's lives better', 'study of chemicals, compounds and other various aspects should be mainly focus', and 'What can be do with sending satellites'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear occasionally, such as 'necesary'. Because the vocabulary demonstrates an adequate range despite these errors and inaccuracies that do not impede communication, a score of 6.0 is warranted.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses (e.g., 'the people having eyes issue can have treatment'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly concerning article usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'scientists always finds', 'protection of individuals health', and 'sending satellites to the space'. Punctuation errors, such as spaces before commas ('Thus , in other words'), are also recurrent throughout the text. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but their frequency prevents the control expected at Band 7.0, making a Band 6.0 accurate.
