The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is frequantly argued that the primary purpose of science is to enhace the the living standards of communities daily life. I firmly agree with the statment along with some degree of disagrement and reason is, eventhough the science should be use for human well being but is should also use for purpose that aren't directly link with it.
Science is providing many benefits to peoples. In our daily life almost all the equipments and tools we use are the blessing of sciece like vehicles, mobile phones, GPS, internet and electricity etc. There are tons of scientific achievements that not just enhace the manking lifestyle but ease they way we live. For example, in past, peoples travels to their destinations in weeks and months, there was no mean of communication, there was no machinery available that use nowadays in different human tasks like harvesting of corps, we have internet and different communication channels, we travel to desired spot within minutes and hours. Science is still in experiments to find different ways to further improve the people's lives.
However, sceince doesn't means it is only for socities benefites, instead it could be used for thoeratical exploration and other different purposes. For instance, we can use scientfic abilities to explore our universe, explore the law of physics and the species that get extint with the passage of time. In fact if this seems unrelateable with the well being of individulas but still undireclty linked with the benefits of humans.
In conclusion, although the main focus of science is to enhance standards of living but this doesn't means science must be within that cricle, It should and must be used for other discovries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, acknowledging that while science should focus on human well-being, theoretical exploration is also vital. The ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mention of daily life technologies, transportation, and universe exploration. However, there is a tendency to over-generalize in places, and some arguments lack deeper elaboration. For instance, the discussion on theoretical exploration is somewhat brief. Overall, the response meets the criteria for Band 6.5, leaning towards Band 7 for providing a clear, developed stance, but the limited depth in supporting arguments keeps it firmly at a Band 6.0 in terms of fully fleshing out all ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, effectively employing paragraphing. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical. For example, expressions like 'along with some degree of disagrement and reason is, eventhough' create awkward transitions and lack smooth integration. Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in 'this doesn't means science must be within that cricle'. Transitional devices are used, but they are sometimes repetitive or inaccurate. These mechanical issues place the essay securely in the Band 6 category, as logical progression is maintained despite occasional cohesion flaws.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'theoretical exploration', 'well being', and 'extint'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'frequantly', 'enhace', 'manking', 'peoples' (used as a plural noun repeatedly), 'undireclty', and 'cricle'. While these errors do not severely impede communication because the writer's intent remains understandable, they occur with enough frequency to restrict the score to Band 5.5. The lack of precise control over spelling and word forms prevents the lexical resource from reaching Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at subordination with clauses introduced by 'although', 'eventhough', and 'for instance'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and fragment sentences (e.g., 'and reason is, eventhough the science should be use for human well being but is should also use for purpose'). Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and comma splices. Because these errors persist across multiple sentence structures and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the response aligns best with the Band 5.0 descriptors, though the presence of varied sentence attempts keeps it from dropping lower.
