Student answer (Band 5.0)
The use of technology is extremely common in today's interconnected world.I firmly agree with this point of view that science technology should boost the individual life.Smartphones is the best option for communication with other person easily. These technologies might be expensive for the middle class families.
There are numerous beneficial factors of science in people's life. One of the major reasons that new science technologies offers a lot of devices such as mobilephone, tablet and laptop. Moreover, these devices are extremely convinient to person life as they can easily communicate with other person.Additionally, these devices provide different applications to cummute with next person for example whatsapp, facebook and snapchat. It also offers a instant messaging from one place to another with few seconds. To illustarte this, a person who lived in Australia, they can easily contact with their parents at any time with smartphone devices.I thought it is extremely crutial for every person to have this device in order to interact with their close ones easily.
On the other hand, there are few challanges of this statement that science technolgy is becoming incresily common in our daily life.I believe that the cost of a particular device such as smartphone is extremely higher and the maintenance cost such as pakages are expensive to purchase. In my point of view, due to these factors it might be difficult for a middle class families to improve people's life by having these devices. It cause a financial burden on job person to maintain their pakage in every month.
In conclusion, ther are many beneficial factors of having smartphone devices in person's life as it increased the communication way, in contrast there are few difficulties for person's life as these devices are expensive, the cost of maintenance is also higher.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether the primary aim of science should be to improve people's lives. The writer takes a clear position by agreeing with the statement. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. Throughout the body paragraphs, the discussion focuses almost exclusively on smartphones and communication applications like WhatsApp, rather than exploring a broader range of scientific advancements such as medicine, agriculture, or transport. While the writer mentions some benefits (convenience, instant messaging) and drawbacks (high device and maintenance costs for middle-class families), these ideas are under-developed and lack extension. The response touches upon all parts of the task, but the narrow focus on a single technology prevents it from reaching a higher band score. Therefore, it fits the Band 5.5 descriptors well, reflecting a partial and somewhat restricted treatment of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, demonstrating an awareness of essay structure. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and mechanical cohesive devices. For instance, the transition 'On the other hand, there are few challanges of this statement' is unnatural and confusing given that the previous paragraph discussed benefits rather than the statement itself. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'It cause a financial burden on job person', where the pronoun reference lacks precision. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow of ideas within paragraphs lacks seamless connectivity. These issues align the response closely with Band 5.0, where organisation is visible, but clear overall progression is lacking and cohesive devices are often inaccurate or misused.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate basic points, but it is repetitive and limited in range. The writer frequently relies on simple words and basic phrases, such as 'extremely common', 'different applications', and 'beneficial factors'. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices throughout the text, including 'cummute' instead of communicate, 'pakages' instead of packages, and 'job person' instead of working person. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'convinient', 'crutial', 'challanges', and 'incresily'. While the intended meaning is usually retrievable, the persistent errors in word formation and collocation prevent the response from achieving a higher band. This performance is characteristic of Band 5.0, featuring a limited vocabulary range and noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical errors. Examples of structural and agreement errors include 'Smartphones is the best option', 'a person who lived in Australia, they can easily contact', and 'due to these factors it might be difficult for a middle class families'. Article usage is also erratic, as seen in 'to person life' and 'for middle class families'. While the writer manages some basic sentence construction, frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, pluralisation, and preposition use persist throughout the text. These frequent errors occasionally cause strain and impede smooth reading, placing the grammar performance firmly at Band 5.0.
