Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The candidate addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position that the primary aim of science should be to improve people's lives and supports this with three main reasons. Ideas regarding standard of living, healthcare, and agriculture are presented. However, the development of these ideas tends to be limited and somewhat repetitive due to lexical constraints and lack of specific, well-developed examples. For instance, mentioning mobile phones and blood pressure machines touches on relevant themes, but the arguments remain rather general and lack depth. There is a tendency to over-generalise without sufficient extension, placing this response firmly in the band 6 category according to the descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and body paragraphs are structured around distinct points (standard of living, healthcare, and agriculture). However, referencing and cohesion are often faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition "One of the reason why I agree is standard of living has improve" exhibits grammatical errors in linking, and cohesive devices are generally basic or inadequate. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences within paragraphs sometimes lack smooth logical progression and referencing is not always clear, which aligns well with the band 5 descriptors for cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, touching on everyday and familiar topics related to science, technology, and agriculture. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as "crusial" instead of crucial, "sevreal", "iteams", "introdce", "vehicals", "sectore", "farmes", "insted", "tredittonal", and "benifical". These errors do not completely impede communication, but they are noticeable and demonstrate a limited control of word forms and spelling, making a band 5 score appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors, such as run-on sentences and comma splices (e.g., "There are sevreal iteams which are introdce by science such as mobile phone, vehicals this are very useful..."). Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are problematic throughout the text, as seen in phrases like "standard of living has improve" and "work from home was significantly increase". While simple sentences are generally understandable, attempts at complex structures frequently result in errors that cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the band 5 criteria.
