Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly taking a stance in agreement with the statement that the main priority of science should be improving people's lives. The student presents two main supporting arguments: advances in medical facilities and the creation of household technologies that make daily life easier. While the position is clear throughout, the ideas are somewhat generalized and could be further extended with deeper analysis or broader societal examples. For instance, the discussion on medical equipment touches on X-rays and laser treatment, but remains somewhat simplistic in its development. Nonetheless, all parts of the task are addressed adequately, aligning with a Band 6.0 level of performance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'Consequently' are utilized to guide the reader through the text, though their application is sometimes a bit mechanical. Logical progression is generally maintained, but referencing occasionally feels repetitive, as seen with repeated use of phrases like 'helps people make their lives easier' and 'science has developed'. Overall, the organizational structure satisfies the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'ultrasonography', 'blockages', and 'rapid development'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'better functioning their heart' instead of 'improving heart function', and 'people lives are more easier' rather than 'people's lives are much easier'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, including 'equipement'. These errors do not impede communication, placing the lexical performance solidly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'people who suffer from various illness can identify their problems'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('every different patients', 'individual who have', 'individual may spend'), pluralization mistakes ('various illness', 'hospital facilites'), and awkward phrasing ('the way where people finds their lives easier'). Although these errors are noticeable, the meaning remains clear, which corresponds to a Band 5.5 descriptor.
