Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt directly, taking a clear position that the primary aim of science should indeed be to enhance human life. The writer explores relevant areas such as healthcare and technology, offering supporting examples like vaccines, antibiotics, and artificial intelligence. However, the development of ideas in some paragraphs remains somewhat general, and the essay ends rather abruptly in the conclusion without a fully formed final thought, as the sentence trails off at 'betterment of humanity.' Despite this minor truncation, all parts of the task are addressed adequately, and a clear position is sustained throughout, corresponding well to a Band 6.5 descriptor profile rounded to 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs focusing on distinct themes, and a concluding remark. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'One significant area' and 'Furthermore.' However, paragraphing and referencing occasionally reveal mechanical patterns, and the incomplete final sentence disrupts the logical progression at the very end. Paragraphs are generally well-constructed, but the abrupt termination of the conclusion affects the overall flow. These features place the response firmly in the Band 6 category, as logical organisation is present despite some faulty closure.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'crucial role,' 'mortality rates,' 'artificial intelligence,' and 'environmental preservation.' There are some vocabulary and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'In today modern world' (should be 'In today's modern world' or 'In the modern world'), 'improved quality life' (missing preposition 'of'), and the incomplete expression 'the way. Each and every sectors use artificial intelligence.' Despite these slips, the lexical choice is sufficient to communicate the main ideas clearly, aligning closely with the descriptors for Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or participial clauses like 'By exploring the numerous advancements...' and 'Through scientific research, diseases that considered incurable...' (missing auxiliary verb 'were considered'). There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, such as 'science play' instead of 'science plays' and the dangling fragment at the end of the conclusion. Nonetheless, these errors rarely impede overall communication, and the sentence variety allows the text to flow, fitting the criteria for Band 6.
