Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that the most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives. Although some people disagree with this statement, I completely agree. Not only because science improves in the medical department and smartphones, but also because the most important aim of science is artificial intelligence.

There are multiple benefits associated with the medical sector. Firstly, science improvement in the health department can help in saving the lives of people who are in more dangerous situations. As science improves, equipment for saving lives is invented. Take an example of the USA, where scientists invented more medical tools for saving lives. Thus, this is one of the best inventions in the health sector.

Secondly, smartphones play an important role in our lives. As people can talk anywhere and at any time. For instance, a recent survey conducted in Germany showed that people use smartphones instead of sending letters. Hence, smartphones are important for communication.

Finally, science invention in AI is now these days is biggest success. As IT industries using AI for solving complex problems. AI is solving problems in few minutes instead of person who solve the same problem in two days. Now these days biggest company of IT are all shifted to AI. One person can handle ten people's work through AI.

To sum up, I believe that science aim should be improve in people's lives through health sector, smartphone and AI. Science roll in human lives is one of the most important aim of all time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the primary aim of science should be to improve people's lives. The ideas are relevant, discussing medical advancements, smartphones, and artificial intelligence. However, the development of these ideas is relatively superficial and lacks depth. For instance, the paragraph on smartphones discusses communication briefly, and the section on artificial intelligence makes generalized claims about IT industries without offering concrete examples. The conclusion also introduces minor shifts in phrasing. While all parts of the task are addressed, the support is somewhat limited, aligning best with Band 5.0 or 6.0 descriptors. Because the ideas are relevant and a clear position is maintained throughout, it fits securely within the Band 6 criteria for addressing all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs on medicine, smartphones, and AI, and a conclusion. Transitional markers such as 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' 'Finally,' and 'To sum up' are employed to guide the reader through the structure. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, sentences like 'As people can talk anywhere and at any time' function as dependent fragments rather than complete clauses, which disrupts the logical flow. Additionally, the progression within paragraphs occasionally falters due to abrupt shifts and repetitive phrasing, such as 'Now these days.' Overall, the organizational framework is adequate for a Band 5.5 or 6.0, but the mechanical nature of the cohesive devices and sentence-level cohesion issues lean toward a Band 5.5 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items related to technology and healthcare, such as 'artificial intelligence,' 'IT industries,' and 'medical sector.' However, there are frequent word-choice errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'science improvement in the health department,' 'science invention in AI,' and 'biggest company of IT are all shifted to AI.' Spelling and morphological errors are also present, including repetitive misuse of phrases like 'now these days.' While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the core arguments, the noticeable inaccuracies and lack of precision in lexical control restrict the score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures frequently result in grammatical errors. There are numerous fragments and incomplete clauses, such as 'Not only because science improves in the medical department and smartphones' and 'As people can talk anywhere and at any time.' Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency issues are also common, for instance, 'science aim should be improve in people's lives' and 'person who solve the same problem.' These errors occur frequently and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader in discerning the exact intended meaning. Consequently, the grammatical accuracy reflects the characteristics of a Band 5.0 level.
