Student answer (Band 6.0)
I totally agree to the point that the primary goal of science should be to provide people with a better quality of life. Scientific discoveries have provided people with convenience in different life aspects where it was necessary. Now after AI, scientists should work on further developments in the field to solve global problems next.
Up till now, all the scientific developments have provided us with major facilities in our lives. For instance, household appliances like light bulbs, coolers, vacuums, washing machines, and electric stoves have made our lives very easy. Before one task used to take hours to be completed. Nowadays, that same task is being completed in an hour or less. Furthermore, these advancements have also facilitated students in their academic studies. Prior to having internet, research students faced a lot of problems in finding evidences from resources either due to the books being too expensive or not being available at all. Now with the help of internet and AI, research students can find the relevant information in less than an 30 mins.
Now with AI in the market, I believe that scientists should use this tool to produce ground-breaking inventions or research that facilitates human beings in different aspects. For example, scientists and AI should work hand-in-hand in order to find cure of diseases like cancer. Moreover, such researches and experiments should be conducted that helps us solve global issues of hunger, poverty, climate change and water scarcity. I have a strong belief that with the ethical and productive use of AI, the future possibilities of improving people's well-being are endless.
Overall, I have a firm stance that major goal of science should be to facilitate human well-being. All invention up till now have made people's life more convenient, and even now with AI introduced to the market, I believe that we can have a vision for future inventions which solves problems which are faced globally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and consistent position in agreement with the statement that the primary aim of science should be to improve human lives. The writer presents relevant ideas and extends them adequately throughout the essay. For instance, the use of historical and everyday household examples like light bulbs and washing machines, alongside modern considerations like artificial intelligence addressing global issues such as hunger and disease, provides strong support for the main thesis. The position is well-developed from the introduction through to the conclusion, satisfying the requirements for a Band 7 response under this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving from a general introduction to historical household conveniences, then to modern technological integration with AI, and finally to a summarizing conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover' are utilized to guide the reader through the arguments, although some referencing and transitions feel slightly repetitive. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, creating a coherent overall arrangement that supports readability and aligns well with the descriptors for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 7.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate and functional range of vocabulary suitable for the task. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'ground-breaking inventions', 'water scarcity', and 'well-being', showing some awareness of style and collocation. However, there are occasional minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'find cure of diseases' instead of 'find a cure for diseases' and 'less than an 30 mins'. Despite these minor slip-ups, the vocabulary is more than sufficient to communicate the central ideas clearly, matching the Band 6 descriptor well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating the ability to structure compound and complex sentences effectively (e.g., 'Before one task used to take hours to be completed. Nowadays, that same task is being completed in an hour or less.'). There are some noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'agree to the point' instead of 'agree with the point', 'finding evidences' (evidence is uncountable), and 'helps us solve' following a plural subject. However, these errors rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments easily, which places the grammar securely at Band 6.
