Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, agreeing that the main goal of science should be improving human life. Ideas are generally extended and supported, particularly in the discussion on healthcare and technology, citing specific examples such as vaccines, polio eradication, and pacemakers. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise or under-develop certain points, such as the brief mention of artificial intelligence and environmental conservation. While the main arguments are well-supported, the development could be slightly more rigorous to achieve a higher band. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the prompt effectively, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, moving logically from an introduction to body paragraphs focusing on healthcare and technology, and concluding with a summary. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In the frist place', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude'. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical due to punctuation issues and awkward referencing (e.g., dangling modifiers like 'As a consequence, one of the science invented instrument is pacemaker'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the logical progression within paragraphs occasionally stumbles due to run-on sentences and fragments. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'mortality rates', 'extended life expectancy', and 'environmental conservation'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from precision, such as 'frist' instead of first, 'elecetrical', 'artifical', and awkward phrasing like 'one of the science invented instrument'. Collocations are sometimes imprecise, such as 'many individuals were die from this disease' or 'in cardiac arrest disease'. Although these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, demonstrating the characteristics of a Band 6.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure throughout the essay. Examples include fragment sentences ('The number of polio cases are disappeared'), subject-verb agreement issues ('one of the science invented instrument is pacemaker, it provides...'), and punctuation errors. Despite these frequent errors, the meaning remains comprehensible, and communication is rarely impeded. This balance of mixed structures and persistent errors aligns well with Band 6.0.
