The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In today's rapidly evolving world, the significance of science has been rising across the world. Meanwhile, a substantial number of individuals assert that one of the predominant objective of science is to improve humanity's life. I partly agree with the given statement, since science affords individuals benefits that useful in the future, while other approaches are also indispensable, which should be taken into account.
To begin, proponents emphasize the view that research in the scientific sector provide myriad benefits, as it involves medical check-ups and space exploration. This is because medicines and treatments are applied on other materials and animals, which constitute same features like humans, allowing scientists to enhance their knowledge, if medicines comprise any deleterious impacts or not before applying on human being. Consequently, science promote the prosperity of humans' well-being. Moreover, science also develop exploration on other planets, which promotes societal and economic advancements of nations. Exploration on other planets demonstrate possible living areas for human in the long run, if they discover any threat on the earth. In addition, it also discovery of resource depletion or new emergence of resources. Hence, science has proven to be an advantageous approach for humans to enhance their standards of living.
By contrast, if govermnments invest a considerable amount of financial funds into scientific research, other public services would be placed at a significant threat. Due to the fact that, scienc offer benefites that will be needed in the long run. However, if the population suffer from poverty, education, transportation services and employment, which are basic necessities of the general publc, then investing in the scientific sector could not be appeared justified. Hence, authorities ought to fulfill the immediate requirements of the citizens. For instance, According to a report of the organisation called WWO- World Wide Organisation, the ratio of estatic and wealthy inhabitants in the UK is more that 65%, but this country accounted for the least position into scientific sector.
To conclude, although science hold immense prominence for the development of nation in the long run, it is not vital if the population suffer from the prerequisites in the present times. Therefore, rather than highly priosritising scientific approach to improve the prosperity, the state ought to also consider basic requirements of the residents.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position throughout. The writer explores both sides of the prompt: acknowledging the profound benefits of science, such as medical advancements and space exploration, while also arguing that basic human necessities like poverty alleviation and education must take precedence. Ideas are generally well-extended and supported, as seen in the discussion about balancing long-term scientific investment with immediate social needs. However, there is a minor tendency to over-generalise or lean on slightly undeveloped claims, such as the vague reference to a report by 'WWO- World Wide Organisation'. Overall, the task is successfully covered, earning a solid Band 7.0 for addressing the prompt thoroughly with a well-developed argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a clear overall logical organization with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Information and ideas are logically sequenced, guiding the reader through the writer's argument. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well to signal transitions, such as 'To begin', 'By contrast', and 'To conclude'. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally become slightly faulty or mechanical, as observed in sentences like 'Due to the fact that, scienc offer benefites that will be needed in the long run', which disrupts the natural flow. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct ideas, keeping the discussion structured. These features align well with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common and academic terms such as 'predominant objective', 'resource depletion', and 'financial funds'. However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors throughout the essay, including 'predominant objective' (instead of objectives), 'scienc offer benefites', 'estatic' (likely meaning static or statistic), and 'priosritising'. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is rarely impeded, and the range is broad enough to convey the intended meanings clearly. This performance sits comfortably within the Band 6.0 criteria for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition in sentence structures with dependent clauses and conditional elements, such as 'if medicines comprise any deleterious impacts or not before applying on human being'. However, there is a high frequency of grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including subject-verb agreement issues ('research... provide'), missing articles, and incorrect prepositions ('least position into scientific sector'). Furthermore, punctuation errors and run-on structures occasionally create difficulty for the reader. Because the errors are frequent and affect both simple and complex structures, the grammar aligns closely with Band 5.0 descriptors.
