Student answer (Band 5.5)
Science is the name of innovations, technology and new inventions. All these mentioned factors can be used positively or negatively depending the the manufacturer or the inventor and the user . Now science has been seen to create easy lives for humanity but it has also been seen that science has also done some pretty humangous damage to the humanity , to the world and society. In the past we have seen that science has made our lives easier by all means , whether it is transport whether it is communication or physical work . Science has made our life easier from all the aspects. Eventhough Science has proved to be a great helper of the humanity , it also has done damage on a great level to humanity like in the older times we didnt have much advanced weapon so the outcome of any choas or war or physical objection led to damage on a very small level. Now that science has leveled up the technology and the advancements of the weapons , Now even a small contradicments between two parties or even a small war can result in a great level of damage . Swords have been leveled upto guns and bombs and now some countries have advanced thier defence mechanism by adding nuclear weapons into it which can lead to the damage which would cover the whole world. If this was the situation in world war 1 and world war 2 these advancements could have resulted in the demolishment of the whole world. These are some of the worst advancement and usage of science in my opinion. Now about the aim to use science for the positive impact of it. Science should be used in such an order that it only effects humanity, society and the world in a positive manner and shouldnt harm anyone in any way. Science should create cures for the incurable deseases and should create such a technology that should have a limit in it so it can only be used positively

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether science should primarily aim to improve people's lives, considering both the positive advancements and the catastrophic potential of negative applications like advanced weaponry. A position is presented, though the development of ideas tends to be repetitive, particularly regarding the destructive potential of weapons and world wars. The writer touches upon cures for incurable diseases at the very end, but this point remains underdeveloped. While all parts of the prompt are addressed to an extent, the arguments lack rigorous extension, aligning best with a Band 6.0 descriptor where relevant ideas are present but somewhat under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates an overall logical progression, moving from general definitions of science to its benefits, its dangers in warfare, and finally conclusions regarding its proper aims. However, paragraphing is severely neglected, as the entire response is presented as a single massive block of text. Cohesive devices are occasionally used (e.g., 'Eventhough', 'Now about the aim'), but referencing is sometimes repetitive and mechanical. Paragraphing is a key requirement for higher bands, and the lack of distinct paragraphs limits this section to a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary, including some less common items such as 'innovations', 'humangous', 'demolishment', and 'incurable deseases'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('humangous', 'deseases') and word formation issues ('contradicments'). Phrasing is sometimes informal or awkward, such as 'leveled up the technology' and 'science has made our lives easier by all means'. The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but errors in word choice and spelling place it firmly in the Band 5.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses ('If this was the situation in world war 1...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in prepositions and articles (e.g., 'depending the the manufacturer', 'to the humanity', 'in world war 1'), run-on sentences with poor punctuation, and issues with subject-verb agreement. While meaning is generally conveyed despite the errors, the frequency of basic and complex structural inaccuracies prevents the response from reaching a higher band, reflecting a Band 5.0 level.
