Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people belives that the most important aim of science should be to improve peoples live and i completely agree with this statement .some people opinions about that is not to use for the improvement of peoples because they think that people misuse that but my perception about that is to use completely for the development of peoples.
The benifits of improving people lives is that people become educated and knows about the differnce between and good things , through sceince there is an many advancement and improvement in technologies which are used by common man for example in past when there is not an technology farmers are doing working in the feild for many days and prepared their crops for irrigation and there is no protection from animals whos destroy their feilds but now a days there is pesticides for the crops and other heavy machinery is used for irrigation which saves time and farmers doing their tasks without any hesitattions and these chemicals also increase the growth rate of feilds. As a computer sceince students i can say that through the improvements in sceince technology the world has evolved . we are working on many new technologies in the world and new Ai models that works on RAG or thats an LLM models that are the benifits of science .
Everthing that has positive affects also has some negative affects in the lives of people . through the improvement in the sceince people are not working hard for the improvement for their lives. As an computer science student now a days i am not working hard on writting the code of my programs i am using claude and open code to complete my tasks that not only me , every student uses AI for cheating purposes for completing their tasks . In every feild people are misusing the improvement of science
In conclusion, I strongly agree that the primary aim of science should be to improve people’s lives by advancing healthcare, solving real-world problems and enhancing living standards.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt directly, taking a clear stance that the primary aim of science should be to improve people's lives. The student attempts to develop ideas by discussing agricultural advancements and personal experiences as a computer science student using AI tools. However, the development is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth in places, such as when discussing the negative impacts or generalising how people misuse science. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the arguments remain somewhat superficial and lack fully extended examples. This performance aligns best with the Band 6 descriptors, as it presents a relevant position and supporting ideas, though some parts are under-developed or unclear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays an overall coherent arrangement, but the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by poor punctuation, run-on sentences, and a lack of proper sentence boundaries. For instance, the second paragraph consists of one extremely long, convoluted sentence connected by coordinating conjunctions and commas (e.g., '...and knows about the differnce between and good things , through sceince there is an many advancement...'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the transitions between paragraphs and sentences feel mechanical rather than fluid. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesive devices are overused in a repetitive manner. This level of organisation and logical progression reflects Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common subject-specific terms such as 'pesticides', 'irrigation', and 'LLM models'. However, there are frequent spelling errors ('belives', 'peoples live', 'differnce', 'sceince', 'benifits', 'whos', 'hesitattions', 'Everthing', 'affects' instead of 'effects') and awkward word choices ('working in the feild', 'heavy machinery is used for irrigation'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable and cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the response firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows an attempt at a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There is a heavy reliance on run-on sentences joined by conjunctions with zero or incorrect punctuation. Basic grammatical errors are frequent, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Some people belives', 'Ai models that works', 'thats an LLM models'), missing articles, and incorrect prepositions. Although the writer attempts complex ideas, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies and poor punctuation means that error-free sentences are the exception rather than the majority. This warrants a Band 5 score.
