Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that the primary aim of science should be to improve human lives. The writer supports this stance with two main ideas: improving healthcare and making daily life easier through technological advancements. While the position is clear, some parts of the development are restricted by limited elaboration and awkward phrasing. For instance, the first body paragraph attempts to link technology to medical diagnoses and treatments, but the reasoning is somewhat muddled by expressions like 'fewer disease more healthy life.' The second body paragraph lists tools such as ChatGPT and YouTube to show how daily life and education are improved. Although the ideas are relevant, they tend to be listed rather than fully extended, placing this response at Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay has a recognisable overall structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, though the internal cohesion of the paragraphs is frequently affected by awkward transitions and poor sentence structures. For example, the sentence 'To begin with, the advantage of science in poeple's lives. The most compelling point is Improve health.' fails to form a complete, cohesive clause. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'To begin with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion,' but referencing and substitution are sometimes unclear or repetitive. Paragraph progression is achieved on a basic level, but the mechanical and faulty linking pulls the score for this criterion to a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'scientific advancements,' 'mortality,' 'life expectancy,' and 'automation machines.' However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'poeple's,' 'dignosis,' 'evident' instead of 'evidence,' and 'destinataion.' Furthermore, collocations are sometimes unnatural, as seen in 'launching the distinct kinds of automated machines in the hospitality area.' While the writer attempts less common vocabulary like 'compelling' and 'efficient,' the persistent spelling slips and imprecise word choices prevent the response from achieving a higher band, making Band 5.5 an appropriate descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with subordinate clauses and participial phrases, such as 'Due to the rapid development of technology scientists are launching...' However, grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent sentence boundary errors, fragments (e.g., 'The most compelling point is Improve health.'), and missing verbs or prepositions (e.g., 'It not only reduce mortality and but also prevent diseases'). Subject-verb agreement and punctuation errors are also common throughout the response (e.g., 'another benefit is make daily life easier'). Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the grammar performance aligns best with Band 5.0.
