Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern world, technology has become a vital part of modern society. It is argued that science most important aim is to improve people's lives. I partly agree with this statement because it provides benefits in several sectors.

To commence with, there are several agree points associated with it. The most prominent point is, provide better health system. To explain it, technology helps in numerous ways like help in education system and health departments. Moreover, with the help of technology it provides better medicines but also provide better facilities and treatment to individuals. For example, since lasy years doctors faces many dificulities while finding and testing reports or diagnoses like cancer, aids, downsyndrom but nowadays it become easy to find problem with the help of new technological machines. Therefore, new technical equipments improve individuals lives like provide better medicines or facilities.

Moving further, there are some supportive points. The main point is, it also help in agriculture and education sectors. Technology play important role in education system like provide e-books, online apps for study. In addition, it provised not only projectors but also robotes, computers, smartphones so students study with the help of internet. Some new apps become launched like CHAT-GPT, GOOGLE. However, it also give new machines in agriculture and new fertilisers so it does not harm to crops and soil.

On the other hand, there are several drawbacks. The first and formost point is, individuals become lazy. Students do not use their own mind in studies because they easily search on internet and it cause less creativity.

In conclusion, after taking all aspects into my consideration, I would like to emphasize that it has valid points. Although, it benefits in health departments, agriculture and education like provide several opportunities. I believe that, individuals become lazy or less creative with the help of technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the main aim of science should be to improve lives, taking a partial stance. The ideas presented are relevant, touching upon health, agriculture, education, and the negative impacts of technology such as laziness and reduced creativity. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on health repeatedly mentions better medicines and facilities without delving deeper into specific arguments. The conclusion briefly reiterates the points but lacks full synthesis. Consequently, the performance aligns best with Band 6, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing different sectors and drawbacks, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. The student relies heavily on repetitive transitional phrases such as 'To commence with', 'Moving further', and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by disjointed sentences and repetitive sentence structures. While the structure is visible and manageable for the reader, the mechanical use of cohesive devices keeps this criterion at a Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic ideas about science, technology, health, and education. However, there is a limited range with noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling throughout the text. Examples include 'lasy years', 'dificulities', 'downsyndrom', 'technical equipments', 'formost', and 'provised'. Less common vocabulary is attempted ('prominent', 'creativity'), but frequent inaccuracies in morphology and spelling ('lasy' instead of 'last', 'dificulities' instead of 'difficulties') restrict the lexical score. Communication is not severely impeded, but the constraints point firmly to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'Although, it benefits in health departments...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, articles, prepositions, and tense usage. Examples include 'science most important aim is' (missing possessive and article), 'doctors faces' (agreement error), 'it also help' (agreement error), and 'it does not harm to crops' (unnecessary preposition). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also problematic at times, leading to fragmented or run-on expressions. Because errors are frequent and cause some difficulty for the reader, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
